Frequently Asked Questions

Where will my lesson be held?

All land based kite activities take place at Perranporth beach. For kitesurfing we can alter location to suit changing wind directions, this means our cancellation rate is lower than schools on fixed locations. Our other locations at Hayle , Pentewan and Marazion are no more than 35 min's from our base at Perranporth.

When do you teach?

We teach 7 days a week 12 months a year although we cannot teach kitesurfing in January or February as its simply too cold! Timings of lessons vary, start times dependent on the tide.

What if there is no wind?

If there is no wind we will endeavour to reschedule you for another day if spaces are available. If you are on holiday, we recommend that you book your lesson at the beginning of your trip so that you have other days to fall back on if the conditions are not good. If you do not complete your course in full, you will be issued a voucher valid for 12 months from the cancellation date.

What should I bring?

Mobius provides all equipment. However it is recommended that you bring: A warm change of clothing/waterproofs; Suitable footwear (trainers/boots); Sun cream/sunglasses; Packed Lunch/Refreshments; Booking confirmation/ completed disclaimers; and for Kitesurfing courses, a wetsuit if you have one (O’Neill 3/2mm Epic can be provided but please also note that the smallest wetsuit provided is a men's small and women's size 8 a smaller size can be hired at £3 per day) and wetsuit boots (Marazion has course sand).

Do I need to take out personal insurance ?

Mobius has full public liability insurance to cover your course. However if you are considering taking up kitesurfing BKSA membership is recommended. Please see our links page.

Can I bring my own equipment on the course?

Yes! However an instructor will need to ensure that is suitable for the conditions on the day. On a group lesson it is advisable to use school equipment unless you are happy for your partner on the lesson to use it.

Are there any age restrictions?

There is no minimum age requirements for kite sports but for IKO courses we recommend a minimum age of 12 due to the amount of theory. For land based activities participation is dependent on height/weight and wind conditions. If children are participating on a group course we will try and match their height/weight with a suitable partner. If this is not possible 1:1 tuition might be required. For kitesurfing under 18's are required to have their parent/legal guardian present when in the water.

Is it safe?

Mobius are a BKSA (British Kite Surfing Association) approved school. All our instructors are fully qualified, experienced and hold current water based first aid and surf rescue qualifications. We offer a very high standard of tuition and have to adhere to strict safety regulations and operating procedures including the use of the latest equipment with the most up to date safety systems. Group Kitesurfing lessons are based on a maximum ratio of four students to one instructor, and group land based kite lessons are based on a maximum ration of six students to one instructor. We only operate on cross onshore winds which means for water based activities you will never be learning in water out of your depth.
