Meet the Team

Tim Ovens and Louise McDonagh (now Mr and Mrs McOvens!) opened Mobius kite school in March 2004.  They wanted to share their passion of kite sports with everyone by introducing people safely with professional tuition.  Since opening, Mobius have become the first BKSA Approved School in Cornwall and are the lead specialists in kite flying instruction.  Having already introduced thousands of people into kite activities, they aim to keep the sport growing safely and to continue their work with local councils and beach owners to keep access open and the beaches safe.  Tim and Louise initially started teaching by themselves, but now get frequently visited by other BKSA instructors who join their team.  Keep an eye on this page to see any new faces at Mobius.

Tim (aka Timo) has been kiting since 1999 and instructing since 2001. In the summer of 2003 he took part in his first BKSA competition, where he won the expression session (best trick contest) and was named best newcomer of the year.  Since then, he has continued to push to higher levels, both his kitesurfing ability and his instructor capabilities.  Timo is now a BKSA trainer, allowing him to run refresher, cross-over and assistant instructor courses on top of all the other courses that Mobius have to offer. Although a North kites Team Rider, Timo has not returned to competitions during the last few years due to concentrating his efforts on the business.  The standard of riding is so high in Cornwall that Timo is still able to push his kitesurfing from strength to strength even when he is not on the competition circuit.

Louise started power kiting in summer 2003 and had learnt to kitesurf by the end of the summer. She completed her BKSA qualifications to become an instructor back in September 2004. She continues to gain teaching experience and with her big smile and fun approach to instructing, everyone gets the most out of their lesson.  Louise also hopes that being a female instructor will encourage more women into the sports.  You will always see her out kitesurfing before and after every lesson, riding the waves and doing big carve turns!

Mark is a one big success story for Mobius! Starting off as a Mobius student in 2005, his instructor Chris described him as 'a legend' because he listened to all the advise, read all the books, practised wakeboarding when Mobius closed for winter, and came back in the spring and cracked it! He then continued to kitesurf during the summer, went on to do his Assistant Instructor Training Course (AITC) with us and became a Level 1 BKSA Instructor in October 2007. Having moved to Cornwall that same year, he has now been teaching for Mobius ever since. If only all Mobius students were this keen and enthusiastic to learn! Mark, who is now a Level 2 BKSA Instructor, is renown for sharing his passion for kitesurfing in a very thorough yet enjoyable way.

Tim has been kitesurfing for a number of years now and became a BKSA Kitesurfing Instructor in October 2008. Having taught all the landbased lessons (powerkiting, buggying and landboarding) and clocked up his teaching hours, he decided to add kitesurfing to his list of teaching capabilities. Tim is also a keen surfer, so when the wind isn't blowing he'll still be out having fun in the waves. Oh, and when he's not in the water, you'll find him sleeping under his kite!!

Sukie is the newest member of the team having taught for us since September 2008. Sukie achieved her level 1 Instructor status back in the Spring of 2008 and gained teaching experience with Mobius over the summer to achieve level 2. Like Louise, she hopes to encourage more girls to try kitesurfing and prevent it becoming a male dominant sport. A Perranporth resident, she is always close to the beach to keep an eye on conditions and to make the most of getting out on the water or on her landboard.
